The location of the hotel is excellent. It is close to many of Barcelona’s main attractions and historic areas, and getting around the city from the hotel is very easy.

− However, the hotel itself feels quite dated and in need of renovation. One of the main reasons I specifically chose this hotel was the gym. Although the gym is larger than what you normally find in hotels and has a good variety of equipment, unfortunately most of the machines and equipment are very old, poorly maintained, and some are even visibly rusty. Because of this, the gym is not nearly as practical or enjoyable to use as it appears in the photos. The rooms also feel quite old in terms of both design and condition. The open bathroom concept may be a matter of personal preference, but there is almost no privacy as the bathroom is visible from the room. At the very least, adding a curtain or some kind of privacy option would make a big difference. We stayed in a room with a balcony, but unfortunately the balcony did not seem to have been properly cleaned for quite some time. There was a significant amount of bird droppings across the balcony, which made it unpleasant to use.

Location of this property was excellent. A number of key sights in Barcelona such as Casa Battlo, Casa Mia are within walking distance. It is also very close to the Metro - Universitat and Pasage de Gracia. Lots of excellent cafes and restaurants just within a 5-10 minute walk such as La FLauta, Vinitus and El Nacionale. I also walked back from near the marina all the way to the hotel at about 11 pm and it felt very safe.

− Can't say there was much I did not like. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. I did not use many of the facilities such as pool/gym/restaurants so unable to comment on them.

We came back to Axel Hotel Barcelona after 10 years, this time to celebrate my 50th birthday, and the team made our return truly special. We had asked if, by any chance, we could stay in the same rooms we had enjoyed 10 years ago. We honestly didn’t expect it to be possible, but Joaquín and the team managed to give us exactly the same rooms! It meant a lot to us and made this trip even more special. And then came the wonderful birthday surprise! Such a beautiful and thoughtful gesture that we will remember for a long time. Thank you, Joaquín & Team, for all your effort, care and involvement. What made this stay special was not only the hotel itself, but the people and the effort you made to make us feel welcome and celebrate this moment with us. After 10 years, Axel still feels special to us. We will definitely be back! Thank you again, Joaquín & Team!
