Very disappointing- dirty!

The location was good

− The smell of smoke and mould. The cigarette butts, dirty tissues and rusty dirty furniture in the patio area The dirty marks on the walls and looked like a fist hole in the bathroom wall Right next door to a pub and the pub seating was right outside the kitchen window- meaning that people were looking in on us as the kitchen blind was broken. The freezer door wouldn’t shut as it was too full of ice. We booked it to spend a special weekend with my sister and bother in law but it was a huge disappointment- do not stay here!

− I had a very concerning experience staying at this property and unfortunately cannot recommend it due to serious safety and management issues. My booking was originally for Apartment 5, but on the day of arrival I received check-in details for Apartment 4 and then Apartment 3. After contacting the management company, they confirmed that Apartment 3 was the correct apartment. Later that evening, the front door to my apartment suddenly opened and two strangers walked in. They were just as shocked as I was, as they had been staying in that same apartment for several nights and had not checked out. It then became apparent that the cleaners had removed their belongings and left them in the communal corridor, assuming they had checked out when they had not. Seeing a pile of someone else's personal possessions outside the apartment was extremely unsettling. There are no internal security bolts or chains on the apartment door, so I had no confidence that I could properly secure the apartment overnight. To make matters worse, the main entrance to the building does not reliably close or lock and was frequently left open, allowing anyone to walk in from the street. The previous guests also told me there had been a major police incident in the building the previous night, which disrupted residents for several hours. They said they had resorted to placing mugs against their door handles while sleeping so they would be alerted if someone tried to enter the apartment. I was staying with my partner, who was working until late that evening, and I also had a nervous dog with me, so relocating at short notice was extremely difficult. What made the experience even more disappointing was Booking.com's response. Despite raising what I believe to be a serious security concern, customer services failed to meaningfully acknowledge or act on the situation.

Location cleanliness and comfort

− The host, after re-locating us to a new property in the week building up to our stay, contacted me an hour before check-in to inform me that property was no longer available and my booking would be cancelled. No explanation. Not good enough. Friends had already travelled from different parts of the country and to find out that we had nowhere to stay an hour before check-in is the worst possible scenario. Would not recommend and would not use again.

Adequate - wouldn’t choose to stay again.

It smelt clean

− Very tired, in need of refurbishing- lots of stains on the carpet, broken blinds.

Ran down, dirty and damp smells - good location though

The location and the clean bedding oven was also very clean.

− Dust and dirt on skirting boards and photos. Holes in walls. Furniture deeply scratched and needs replacing. Definitely needs a new cleaner. Cobwebs, dirt still on floor, old washing up sponge left for me to use, liquid marks on bedroom mirror, mouldy bathroom. Old water left in Kettle. Dirty and finger marks inside a cupboard. Toothpaste splats on mirror and tiles. Cleaner couldn’t even be bothered to wipe old soap off the sink. The host offered me apartment 3 it seemed clean however a very bad smell of damp coming from the bathroom, upon looking it had damp and mouldy walls. Honestly these are lovely spaces however needs major love and attention, not just a quick lick of paint.
