Faded glory in convenient location
4.0Hotel has seen better days, and I’d say the same of the Taos Plaza area in general. Hotel staff were kind, but our king room (while a good size) wasn’t in the greatest of shape-water stains on the ceiling, shower head and sink faucet weren’t in good water, and the first day there was no hot water for some reason. All we were told is that it was being fixed, but no accommodation was offered. Coffee machine was a joke—one of those slide in filters that makes undrinkable coffee. Also no soundproofing between rooms-our neighbor was constantly on the phone. Big safety issue to me was hotel doors (especially from the back lot) were left open. Signs saying “hotel guests” only beyond this point are not a deterrence, and there were a number of “questionable” young people roaming the area at times. Bright spot within walking distance for dinner was Lamberts and the close by Legacy Cafe was very good.
Old charm feel
6.0The location of this hotel is great, and the history and location were why we chose the hotel. It has old charm, limited updates, Internet connection was horrible. The bed was comfortable, it was quiet and clean, staff was friendly. If you want quirky, interesting, and a historical experience then choose this hotel.
Authentic, historical property with great staff
10.0La Fonda Taos is the oldest building in Taos, going back to 1820 as a hotel, trading post, saloon, and more. While reasonably modernized it still retains that beautiful od flavor. Staff is welcoming and open to your needs

MY CUP OF TEA MIGHT NOT BE YOURS
8.0First, we enjoyed our stay here. There are only 2 reasons to stay here: 1. You like old, historic buildings and the quirkiness they provide; 2. You like the location of being in the midst of a very old section of town and directly on the Plaza. We, fortunately, enjoy both reasons. If you are expecting luxury, high class amenities, attention to every detail of comfort, this is not your place. We had a 2 room "suite". However, the first room was strangely equipped with one tv, two uncomfortable chairs, a wet bar, a table with a coffee pot, and a Murphy bed. The second room, the actual bedroom, had a very comfortable bed, a tv, 2 nightstands, and a table. The window looked out on the wall of the next-door building. Our room was quiet and we had a wonderful, rest night. The bathroom was small, but very clean. There were plenty of towels, but only one wash cloth. Both rooms were very clean and actually did not smell old and musty like some buildings of this age do. The desk clerk was polite and friendly. Check in was easy as well as parking. Because of the time of year, I think, most of the shops on the Plaza closed at 4p.m. The restaurants nearby stayed open later. Old town Taos is like stepping into another time, very unique. New Taos is modern. They even have a What-a-Burger! If you like Western history, Native American history and Mexican-American history, this is a great place to visit.
Fun
10.0Went skiing with my wife. Hotel stay was comfortable and relaxing. Staff was helpful, parking nearby, and room was clean.
