An Experience not to Forget
10.0Just returned home from a weeks stay in Ireland. For the first two nights we were treated to the absolute delight of stay at the titanic hotel. From the very beginning we were treated to first class service from all the staff, front of house, bar staff, restaurant team and the domestic crew nothing was to much trouble. Rooms were well equipped and spotlessly clean and well stocked. Located next to the titanic experience (which is a must) and only 15 minute walk to the town centre the titanic hotel is really a place to stay and outshone other hotels we stayed in during our weeks stay.
A unique hotel
8.0This is a unique hotel , the photos on the wall , the building itself, formerly the offices of Harland and Wolff. The room I had was comfortable, clean and tidy. I found the barstaff friendly and efficient, a nice pint of Guinness. I had one evening meal in the hotel , the food was excellent. If you have breakfast try to get there before 8.30am after that it can get a bit chaotic. Tables not being cleared, staff appeared to be overwhelmed. Bit of a disappointment. You can't get a better location, it's a nice walk to the city centre however there is a glider bus service which stops opposite the hotel every 10 mins. On leaving the hotel at 3.45am to catch a taxi , I went down to the reception no one there, I knocked on a door , shouted still no one there , at first I couldn't get the door open to leave but after a struggle I got the door , I was very surprised no one was available on reception.
Afternoon Tea and Guided Tour at Titanic Hotel
10.0We visited the Titanic Hotel while celebrating my mum's birthday. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. Our visit began with a guided tour of the hotel, which was very informative and well presented by David. It was interesting to learn about the history of the building, its connection to Belfast's famous shipbuilding heritage, and to see how beautifully the original features have been preserved. David was knowledgeable and passionate, bringing the history to life and making the tour both engaging and enjoyable. Afterwards, we enjoyed afternoon tea, and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was beautifully presented, from the sandwiches and warm scones to the gorgeous selection of cakes and sweet treats. We also tried a couple of the mocktails, which were beautifully presented and tasted amazing. A special thank you to our waitress, Lauren, who was exceptional throughout. She was so friendly, welcoming, attentive, and genuinely lovely. She made sure we had everything we needed while making us feel completely relaxed and looked after. As we were celebrating my mum's birthday, the staff surprised her with a beautiful "Happy Birthday" slate accompanied by a selection of macarons. It was such a thoughtful touch. The atmosphere was made even more magical by the pianist playing beautiful music throughout the afternoon. It created such a relaxing ambience that perfectly complemented the surroundings of the hotel. The attention to detail, service, food, and warm hospitality made this such a lovely celebration.
Poor
4.0This was a poor experience for me, partly because I’m a light sleeper and partly because I didn’t do my research properly and I had presumed this was a 5 star hotel. We stayed three nights and slept in three separate rooms - a whole new level of inconvenient drama for all of us. Our first room was (unbeknown to me at the time) one of the quiet rooms. In other words, there was no traffic noise. We slept soundly at night save for the slamming doors. The room doors are heavily decorated and they bang incredibly loudly as a result. The layout of the first room had the beds alongside the corridor wall and the constant slamming makes for an early start. The air conditioning unit malfunctioned on our second night - going through a beeping/vibrating reset procedure every 40 minutes or so. That kept us up until 2am when we gave up and called reception. They moved us quickly and without fuss although the worst was yet to come as we were moved to a roadside room. The rooms have old sash windows with zero soundproofing and we may as well just have tried to sleep out on the street. Every car (of which there are many it’s a busy road), every siren - we could hear conversations - there is literally zero sound proofing in play here. I’d already been up with the air conditioning unit most of the night so this pretty much killed the trip for me. I was travelling alone with kids and committed to an early start for a full day trip to the Causeway. I was in a state the next morning and I explained that to the receptionist. In our absence we were moved to the final room, which they described as the best available. The layout of the room meant the beds were better positioned for the slamming doors and whilst we still had the old sash windows the road outside was a small hotel access road only. The first car along that road was at 5:20am - it’s still incredibly loud, but the traffic is limited. I had ear plugs but they weren’t sufficient to block out the traffic. I’ve never stayed anywhere before with old sash windows that have no additional sound proofing, and I never would again. I see how this is a common theme in the reviews. People who say it’s not an issue were probably just lucky enough to be placed dockside/high floor. By way of compensation we were given a voucher for a cocktail and some chocolate and ice cream, which was a nice gesture but random - it would have been far better if they’d have engaged with me to discuss it, apologise face to face and to see what we actually would have liked - as this was wasted on us. Aside from the noise, the other things I wish I’d known are…. - the bar staff are terrible. Swearing loudly amongst themselves (the “f” word openly, when I’ve got children with me at the bar), showing each other loud Tik Tok clips, ignoring customers waiting to be served - the breakfast staff aren’t much better. Aside from one lovely girl on the last morning, we were generally treated like an inconvenience. The lady in the Covid mask had me having to choose between onion and pepper in my omelette - there was no world in which she was willing to concede that I might have a bit of both - the breakfast quality is very poor. Cheap sausages, congealed bacon and some mouldy pineapple were the staples. The coffee machine was dreadful - it wouldn’t even dispense milk on the first day but despite there being a nice coffee machine at the bar there was no way we were going to be offered one, we would wait ages for machine rubbish. The only way to survive the breakfast is to order the filter coffee from the menu and food from the gluten free menu, even if you’re not gluten free, because at least then the food is cooked fresh - if you’re travelling alone with children near in mind there is NOTHING in the room. We had one can of luke warm still water between us. There is no fridge, no mini-bar, no room service - nothing. A first for me at a hotel purporting to operate at this level. Whilst the hotel is full of history, the conversion is lacking and the hotel is open to the general public (and covered as part of the discovery tour if you’re visiting the museum). I very much wish I had opted for the purpose built new Marriott opposite the museum and browsed around the hotel briefly instead. We had a massive level of inconvenience, some of our toiletries were lost in the move, we were absolutely exhausted which ruined a day trip and we had no meaningful interaction with anyone in respect of any of it. Despite all of that I had to beg for a slightly later check out - the guy on reception treated me like the enemy and made it very clear that I’d be paying £30 an hour on the hour if I stayed any longer. They could have made amends, they just couldn’t be bothered and nobody seemingly cared or took any ownership. Would never dream of returning!
My expectations were high and this exceeded them
10.0This was one of the most memorable hotel stays of my life. I would love to have a chance to come back here again to stay! Everything was perfect from start to finish. Prepare for this hotel to vastly exceed your expectations even if those expectations are high! I knew the hotel had an interesting history and a convenient location for the Titanic Museum, but I was so pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the hotel's design, the interesting historic details, and the impeccable service. The rooms are lovely with historic touches and finishes, but the hotel's public spaces are endlessly fascinating. Allow plenty of time for a self-guided tour around the hotel (you can get a flyer at the front desk) and take a close look at al the artwork and hidden special spots. If you take a guided tour at the Titanic Museum next door, part of the route also brings you inside the hotel to learn more of the history. I can't believe how affordable this hotel is for what it is. Definitely spring for an executive room if you can - they are significantly larger than even the premium rooms. The hotel is immaculate - people are all over the place shining the glass and touching up scuffed or worn paint all day long! The showers have strong hot water. The air conditioning was powerful. The staff go above and beyond. Absolutely include a stay here on your Belfast itinerary - preferably for at least three nights if not longer!
