Nice Hostel, But No Compassion for Disabled Guests

− I am extremely disappointed by the attitude of the reception staff and their complete lack of humanity. Before my arrival, I sent two messages explaining that I have a disability and asking if it would be possible to assign me a lower bunk, as climbing to an upper bed is extremely painful due to my leg condition. Unfortunately, my request was completely ignored. When I arrived, the check-in was done through a machine, and I only had to speak to the receptionist to collect the bed linen. I asked which bed had been assigned to me, and he told me it was an upper bunk. I was devastated. I explained again that I have a disability and that climbing to the top bunk is extremely difficult and painful for me. I was almost in tears as I begged him to help me find another solution. His answer was simply that the hostel was fully booked and there was nothing he could do. He suggested that I ask one of my roommates to swap beds with me. I found that suggestion completely inappropriate. Why should I disturb someone who had already settled in and ask them to give up their bed? That should never have been my responsibility. I even asked whether I could sleep in one of the common areas because I genuinely could not manage the upper bunk. Again, I was told they normally don't do this, without any attempt to find an alternative. With great difficulty and a lot of pain, I eventually climbed up, made my bed, and then went to take a shower. About 15 minutes later, when I came back to the room, I saw a new guest arriving and settling into the lower bunk opposite mine. I hadn't noticed that bed earlier because the room was messy and covered with other guests' belongings. She told me she had only just arrived. At that moment, it became obvious to me that what I had been told was simply not true. If there was still a lower bunk becoming available in my own room after my arrival, then the hostel was clearly not completely full.
