What’s Unique about the Vanderbilt room at The Harbor Rose Bed and Breakfast? Our most elegant room and the only guest room on the first floor with an en-suite bathroom. Queen size bed with a fireplace, and yes, it works! Firelogs are available for $20 each. Vanderbilt Room has its own thermostat-controlled Heat and AC, Flat-screen cable TV, a radio alarm clock/sound machine, and a desk. The Sights and Sounds: If you have the windows open, you will hear some distant street traffic noise in the evening. We pretend it is ocean waves and a science lesson in the Doppler Effect! You may also enjoy the sounds of nature — crickets in the summer and songbirds, geese, and swans taking flight from the water are quite a sight and sound. Yes, every hour on the hour you will hear the song bells from St. John's Church. If the windows are closed, the room is silent. The Vanderbilt Room features spectacular winter water views, and through the foliage, water views in spring, summer, and fall. The water views are most enjoyable during the evening sunsets. A rare treat to have sunset views over the water on the east coast of the USA! As the sun sets, the harbor becomes golden, shimmering like diamonds across the surface of the harbor. At night across the harbor, you will see the twinkling lights on a miniature cityscape tucked into the hills. The room is also closer to the front entrance, so you may hear guests entering and exiting the building if the windows are open. Enjoy a luxury Sealy mattress, cotton linens, and pillows. What’s Unique about the Victorian Room? Our only room with a King size bed and a fireplace, and yes, it works! Chemical-free fire logs are available for $20 each. It has a balcony overlooking the harbor just outside the guest room. The Victorian Room is on the warmer side (by a few degrees) in the winter and the summer, even with the central air conditioning. So, if you prefer open windows and ocean breezes when the outdoor temperatures are in the high 70s and low 80s rather than air conditioning, the Victorian Room is a good choice. Our largest guest room is at the “top of the house,” so in choosing this room, our guests must be comfortable with stairs. It features an antique bedroom set with luxury linens, cable, flat-screen TV, alarm clock radio, a sitting area, writing desk, lovely afternoon sunlight, and plenty of room to dance, do yoga, or cartwheels on the wall-to-wall carpet. There are two windows facing south and one facing east. The east-facing window is located at the end of a dormer-ed alcove, and early morning sunlight is blocked by the topography of the hillside. What’s unique about The Harbor Hill? Its beautiful antique bedroom set is complete with one queen size bed and one twin daybed. The Harbor Hill and bath have slanted walls, so if you are a professional basketball player or otherwise very tall, you may be more comfortable in the Victorian Room or the Vanderbilt Room. Although we have central air conditioning, this room is supplemented with a window air conditioner in the summer. If you enjoy a very cold room in the summer, The Harbor Hill room is a good option. The bathroom features a skylight and a stall shower (there is no bathtub). The granite vanity features a large mirror, great lighting, and space to spread out. You feel like you are in your own private oasis in the Harbor Hill. You will enjoy the pitter-patter of rain on the roof, and whether the windows are open or closed, this is a very quiet room.
