Hotel Mabey Cusco♡

No pool in use, needs updating and a very poor breakfast.

Upon arrival. I asked where the pool was situated. The guy on reception said “no pool”. My friend and I booked through Exoticca (don’t book a holiday with them btw they’re shockingly bad, see reviews). Exoticca showed a beautiful pool out of the 3 photographs for this hotel. I found the pool in a tatty overgrown garden area. Sure enough, there it was, except it was empty and dirty. My friend had to change her room. Mine was ok apart from the balcony you couldn’t really go on to as it was overgrown with trees. Be warned the tiled floors in the bedroom and bathroom are dangerously slippery dry, a skid pan when wet. The breakfast was horrendous. Boiled eggs, dried up horrible bread, a little bit of fruit and pretty much a couple of cereals. The worst breakfast selection I’ve had in my 40 years of visiting many hotels including those in third world countries. To add insult to injury it seemed because of the price it was more a hostel than a hotel. Two huge buses arrived and filled the rooms with teenagers who were running around after midnight banging doors, squealing and acting out of control, not a teacher/supervisor in sight. We had to be up at very early for the long drive/bus/train ride to visit Machu Picchu. All 4 of us in my group were shattered after little sleep. It’s a shame as it had potential to be a nice hotel as theres quite a few colonial style touches, but it’s quite run down and the pool garden area definitely needs sorting as there’s nowhere nice to relax outside. Although it’s out of town it’s only 50p to get one of the tuk tuks into the main shopping/restaurant area. But overall sadly I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Hotel was okay. They initially put us in a room with no window so asked to move. Breakfast was pretty poor. Decor needs updating.

Cold and Noisy

We stayed at Hotel Mabey as part of an Exoticca package. Unfortunately, this hotel was well below our expectations. The showers were lukewarm at best, so we had to minimize our time in the water so that we don't freeze. The breakfast was OK in that they had the basics, but they don't refresh it very often. The coffee would have grounds in every cup and was quite bitter, and the eggs were sometimes cold. One of the cereals had become glued into a solid lump due to the humidity. The room itself had little sound proofing so you could hear everyone from different directions, this is compounded by the fact that the bathrooms all vent to a central shaft, so you can easily hear the bathrooms on different levels. Overall I would not recommend staying here.
