Amazing experience to experience the local life in Ukerewe

10.0

The accommodation was simple, but perfect to experience the local life in the island. Dickson is super welcoming, and made everything for us to enjoy our stay. He spent the day with us to cycle around the villages, and we could see the local life. We highly recommend this place if you would like to connect with the people and Dickson is an excellent host and guide

Beautiful homestay

10.0

Amazing place to stay in Ukerewe. Dickson, the owner, was very accommodating and offered us many activities to do on the remote island. He gave us a tour of the village, showing us local lifestyle. Everyone was very nice to us. He made our meals every day which were super delicious! He even showed me how to cook the meal and let me help bc I was curious. The rooms were super nice, with a mosquito net and actually quite cool inside. Before we stayed here, we went for a local bike ride with a tour guide, Paschal, too - super fun and idyllic!

So so

5.0

Great beds and bedding.

The showers were poor, after the first night we asked to swap as the shower didn't work, everything on it was broken. We moved rooms, the shower worked but the plug was blocked and the shower flooded , the fan was incredibly noisy. The rooms were tired and the bathrooms even worse. Breakfast was awful, a boiled egg , which on the first morning was off , the bread had tiny ants crawling all over it , the chipatis were greasy , tough and cold . However the tea was good . The menu was elaborate, but there seemed to be very little understanding of the dishes , and was definitely over priced , the Tilapia ( fish ) tasted off dirt , as I'd quite often the case here . The actual choice was very limited compared to the menu . But the staff were lovely.

Beautiful Homestay

10.0

Homestay is located in the very North of the island which is beautiful. Dickson collected us from the port for the 30 minute drive, he was a great host and provided a choice of activities. We opted for the cycle around various villages and sites which was fantastic. The lake is stunning especially where the coconut groves were, we even saw a hippo. The facilities at Homestay are basic and you sleep in very traditional African huts which were very comfortable. There is only outside squat toilets and bucket wash facilities but it's very clean. There is no WiFi but good internet connection. There is also nowhere to buy or cook your own food but Dickson offers delicious home cooked food at reasonable prices.

No WiFi, no option to buy/cook your own food.

It’s far away from the pin on booking.com, misreading localisation unfortunately
