Great Host. Could not do enough for us. Apartment is very spacious and well appointed. Location is good just as long as you know your way around Alexandria.

− Not the host fault but we chose to visit during the cold season and unfortunately the air con/heater in the lounge had a problem. The host tried his best when we were there to send men to get it working but sadly unsuccessful. So a bit chilly in the evening.

This apartment building is right across from the Mediterranean and a popular promenade which provides a relaxing walk to restaurant row called “The Walk.” The building is also near typical shopping alleys where you can find bakeries, pastry shops, and more local-catering restaurants (i.e. menu may only be in Arabic, unlike those in “The Walk.”) The apartment complex is part of a small mall that has a convenience store, pharmacy, and Pizza King. Husband started showing cold/flu symptoms upon arrival so the pharmacy was a Godsend. The apartment itself is a roomy two-bedroom two bath facility that’s homely decorated and provided similar ambiance. The large TV with NETFLIX and other streaming services was particularly useful when my husband had to stay ‘home’ because he was too sick to go sightseeing with me. Host Ahmed had cookies, candies, juice and water waiting for us when we arrived. The place was clean and the bed comfortable (only used one room). There’s a fully equipped kitchen and clothes washer, but we did not use either one. I did use the convenient electric kettle for my daily dose of coffee so that was nice. The best part of the stay is the friendship developed with owner Ahmed. He was kind enough to assist with the day tour of Alexandria, which I enjoyed tremendously! Near the Citadel, we arranged to meet at his fave coffee shop and he instructed the driver to take me on a boat ride to take photos, with his compliments. What a wonderful suggestion, as it was a favorite memory of Alex (sunset over the water), only second to my visit to the impressive Alex Library! He has excellent connections with a car-hire service, so if you need a ride back to Cairo or airport, he can help for reasonable cost. At the last minute, my husband wanted to see the Suez Canal (Port Said). So I asked Ahmed for help and he arranged for the driver to take a side turn from Cairo to Port Said on the way to Alex.

− This appears to be typical Egyptian building so the elevator is small and the hallway to apartment was a bit dark. In some areas, wires were coming out of the wall so a bit unsightly, but that’s not the apartment owner’s fault. If you need to be at a tourist hotel with its amenities, this place is not for you. We wanted to immerse ourselves in the culture, but with more Western accommodations, so this was great for us. By the way, Ahmed has an assistant on site who can provide what you need. All you need is to call Ahmed and he will relay instructions in Arabic.

I loved the extraordinary hospitality at Your Home Apartment. Ahmed's warm and thoughtful approach made the stay memorable, from the freedom to cook and enjoy free drinks - to the introduction of delightful local treats: sweet milky rice. His recommendations for activities around Alexandria enriched the experience. It was truly unique and heartfelt—unlike anything I’ve encountered in my travels.
