authentic and nice way to stay in Georgetown within a homestay setting

the possibility to stay at a very local, typical Guyanan wooden house in a homestay environment - both bathroom and toilet are shared but I found them spotless clean - in the room you have a brand new fridge and a powerful air condition which served the purpose really well of keeping the drinks and foodstuff cool and the room fresh. - each morning the lady provided me a rich breakfast that kept me saturated most of the day - Elvis the host took me along to the Evangelical church one morning and that was pretty impressive to see how they praise the Lord and sing and are having a good time with their community - it is easy to get into town right to Starbroek market for sightseeing of Georgetown's main points of interest and back by one of the many minibuses that frequent the main road just in front of the homestay, very convenient and very cheap (GYD 140) to move around as taxis are quite expensive in Georgetown (around 15 USD for the same distance) - there is a chinese supermarket just around the corner - Elvis organized me the transport from door to door from his place to the ferry dock in time for the border crossing to Suriname by the ferry that only runs once per day and further to my hotel on the Surinamese side. It was the best taxi ride (shared with 2 other persons) which I had in my life, very fast (2 hours instead of the 3hs45m indicated by googlemaps) and I still felt in very safe hands ;-) Elvis also relieved me from my stress I had when due to technical problems I could not pay the entry card to Suriname over the internet when he said that everything can be done conventionally on the spot at the ferry dock which I now can confirm, all worked out perfectly. Do have USD in cash at hand for the ferry as paid in GYD the ferry is much more expensive!

− Nothing to mention here. Just make absolutely sure you DO bring the amount in USD in CASH as you would need to pay your accommodation upon arrival in this currency. The reason I mention this is the following: While it is clearly stated in booking.com later in a message I was also offered by the host to pay by PayPal but in my case it was a drama. In the end it all went well and through but I understood it was a slight inconvenience for the host to be paid by PayPal. Still I somehow felt pressured to pay immediately (i.e. within the first 15 minutes after my arrival) even though I was staying there for 5 nights. I found that a bit exaggerated and in the end I think I would have be able to work out an alternative right on the morning next day which would have been less frustrating for all parts involved (By being forced to pay by PayPal on the spot in the end I was paying a hefty "commission" through the rather unfavourable exchange rate and the host told me he only would get the money in 3 weeks' time which almost made him flip out).

I highly recommend this guest house. Mr Smith is very helpful and can arrange taxis if needed. The neighborhood is nice and quite, I highly recommend, also you can walk to the downtown like 10/15 minutes. I felt like at home, local experience and very economic for Georgetown.

La estancia fue muy calida la pasamos muy bien ,tranquilos ,nos costaba salir de la habitación ,super acojedora ,internet con muy buena calidad TV, frente a la cama, fricer ,en fin perfecto muy tranquila la sona , limpia , sentrica ,todo muy cercano y diversos supermercados, en fin nos gusto mucho muy buena la atencion y la amabilidad de su anfitrión el señor Smith
