Nothing… the fact that I left

− I had a deeply uncomfortable and disappointing experience at this property. From the start, the environment felt unwelcoming, and unfortunately, there were undertones of discriminatory behavior that left me feeling uneasy, especially as a Black guest. The annex is extremely cold, which can be uncomfortable. The property has only one boiler that serves both the main house and the annex that is rented out. I was only able to turn on the radioators to warm the annex on the first night. When the homeowner was uncomfortable with the heat, they turned off the boiler—leaving me without heating. This was not only inconsiderate but also impacted my ability to be on-site early in the morning for work. They had to call the engineer, only to find out that the homeowner had him stay behind to do other work—making me feel like I was used as a way to get maintenance done on their property at my expense. Following this, I was accused of damaging the boiler and was reported to Booking.com, which I believe was a tactic to pass off boiler repair costs onto me. It's worth noting that I was never aggressive—I simply tried to raise concerns and was met with hostility, depending on the homeowner’s mood that day. The house itself is poorly maintained: full of spiders, and their cob webs, with an impractical layout that barely works for one person. The annex is not soundproof. There is a fridge in the kitchen blocking direct access to the main house. There is no privacy, as the homeowner and their family can hear all your conversations and vice versa. The internet connection was unstable, and I had to rely on intermittent Wi-Fi just to get basic work done. The tv doesn't have streaming service, the tv remote is universal and majority of the buttons didn’t work. The house is old and has an overwhelming number of restrictive rules that made the stay feel more like a monitored visit than a rental.

My Host was absolutely lovely. I was always checked on if I needed anything and the apartment was so warm in these cold winters. The kitchen was fully stocked and the bathroom was exceptionally clean. The property has been my favourite stay so far. 100% recommend if you’re looking for somewhere quiet and out the way.
