− Please note that you have to drive everywhere as there are no shops in the village. The roads around the village are also quite narrow.

A Marvellous Christmas Stay at The Retreat in South Milton

We spent Christmas at The Retreat in South Milton with our family of ten, and it was truly unforgettable. The house was beautifully furnished and incredibly well equipped — plenty of plates, glasses, cookware, and more than enough towels for everyone. It made hosting a large family Christmas feel effortless. A lovely touch was the welcome basket waiting for us on arrival, filled with teas, jams, wine, and chocolates. It instantly set the tone for a warm and thoughtful stay. The area itself is wonderfully peaceful, perfect for a festive escape, yet the neighbours we met were friendly and welcoming, adding to the charm of the location. And of course, the host was amazing — attentive, kind, and genuinely committed to making our stay special. Their hospitality and attention to detail made all the difference.

− I don’t think there’s anything to fault. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend Christmas together. A marvellous stay from start to finish, and one we’d happily return to.

Great family cottage with lots to see and do nearby

Perfectly located a short drive from the beach, Burgh Island and the nearby towns; a grocery shop and PO in the next village and gloriously quiet at night. Parking wasn’t a problem and there was plenty of room for us all. The kitchen was really well-equipped, there were games and the beds and sofas were comfortable.

Perfectly positioned for the beach and wedding venue. Very comfortable beds and sitting room. Good coffee machine.

− Decor is a little shabby in places and garden needs attention, especially at bottom which could be delightful. Needs bigger dishwasher or collection of thinner plates.

A real home, nicely decorated with absolutely everything one needs. Kitchen really well stoked with pans dishes utensils. Lovely outdoor space with secret garden. Lots of board games. And very well located with stunning beaches walks nearby. We tried restaurants recommendations and they were superb.

Very comfortable indeed.

Very clean & comfortable. Lovely bedding. Comfortable beds. Nice decor. Spacious and well equipped kitchen. Good communication . Parking was fine . Short drive to Salcombe , Thurlestone, Hope Cove etc .

− Fair amount of traffic on the road . Could not hear it but had to be careful .
