This is our third stay at Brooklands over the past 12 years. We liked the original B&B owner managed warmth and attention to details which showed that they were proud and interested to share the heritage charms of this unique accommodation. Home baked bread, continental breakfast with condiments, milk, bottles of wine, fresh flowers on arrival. Our first visit was outstanding and set it apart from other holiday accommodation experiences, so that we wanted to return. Today we still appreciate the cottage charms, the wood fire, spa and peaceful location.

− The owners may have changed or become tired and disinterested in the property, handing it over to Harris and removing its B&B status. As guests for two nights in boutique accommodation, we were somewhat annoyed and insulted by the $600 bond and a check list of duties (not appropriate for this property, no washing machine or dryer) required for our bond refund (including taking the bin 200 -300 metres down a dirt track when we have a health issue which prevents us doing this so therefore causing anxiety around receiving our bond), this is discriminatory under the equal opportunity act for guests with a mobility issue. Other concerns during this stay include a possible partial blocked flue in combustion heater causing smoke alarms to go off multiple times, and at certain times during the day we could smell evidence of a possum or two living above the kitchen exhaust fan. Tea light candles in the bathroom were burned empty by previous guests and not replaced. Cobwebs throughout the bookcase and tv cupboard suggests a thorough spring cleaning is needed. Milk for tea and coffee would be appreciated. Garden around the cottage is very overgrown. This accommodation no longer represents good value for money. We will not be returning.

A beautiful historical cottage

The cottage was quaint, lovely old features and very interesting to read it was first built in 1839 as the dairy. It was very relaxing, the views were beautiful and only a few minutes drive into Port Elliott. The spa was very good and the pre-set water heater was a great addition. No fiddling around in a strange shower to get the water temp right! The bed was a bit firmer than we are used to, but it was ok and we had good night sleeps.. We didn't get to use the wood fire as it wasn't cold enough, but it was set up and plenty of wood. There was a great reverse cycle aircon in the bedroom though. I actually loved our 3 night stay in this cottage and it was very memorable.

− We found that the BBQ wasn't working well. Even on it's highest setting, it didn't get hot enough to cook our steak. Maybe time for an upgrade. The lovely garden around the cottage needs some attention as it was becoming a bit over grown around the pathways.

Cottage charm amidst rolling hills

Wonderful quiet location with views over rolling hills. Very private but 5 minutes form the coast and all facilities. Charming stone cottage with period features.
