9.0We had a wonderful stay at Birdsong Cottage and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting the Champagne Castle area. The location is excellent, with easy access to the beautiful Champagne Castle and surrounding attractions. The cottage itself is spacious, offering three comfortable bedrooms and three bathrooms, which made our stay very convenient for the whole family. The kitchen is well-equipped with a gas stove, oven, and everything needed for a self-catering stay. We especially enjoyed the cozy fireplace on the chilly evenings, as well as the outdoor deck and braai area. Our host, Charles, was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive. He checked in on us after our arrival, brought us extra dishwasher soap when needed, and lives nearby, making him easily available should you need any assistance. We were also warmly welcomed on arrival by two staff members who kindly helped us unpack our car. A special mention goes to Rosy, who cleaned our cottage each day. She is truly lovely, friendly, and an absolute gem.
− The only suggestion we would make relates to privacy. During our stay, we discovered that the laundry room servicing the other cottages is located behind this cottage. As a result, staff arrived quite early each morning to wash linen and towels, and there was regular activity around the cottage for a significant part of the day. On a few occasions, staff also needed to enter the cottage to collect towels stored in the cupboards. While we genuinely appreciated the excellent housekeeping service, we had hoped for a little more privacy and a quieter atmosphere to fully relax and enjoy our family holiday.

Drakensberg getaway
8.0The location was perfect - close to walks and with a gorgeous view. All the facilities worked well and the house was spacious and clean. Lovely fireplace. Special to be able to bring our dogs.
− The baboons were a stress factor - important to really lock the sliding door properly!
