Without a doubt, the best place to stay in Scilla

The owner was waiting for us and handed us the keys and showed us how everything worked. Nothing was too much trouble and she answered all our questions. Made us feel extremely welcome in her home.

It was perfect here. Will be coming back again, hopefully next year!

Not at all what we expected. At the time we booked, there were no reviews. Learned my lesson!

3.0

The location was excellent. Except for the fact that the master bedroom was on the main road from the main piazza, and there were no real windows in the bedroom. There was traffic almost all night long, especially motor scooters which would start up the long hill and gun their engines. Very difficult to sleep. The only saving factor for the apartment was the beautiful view of the sea and Sicily across the Strait of Messina.

I'm not sure how much room I have to type. But here goes. It seemed as if the previous owner had just left the place 40 years ago, and nothing had been done to it since. The kitchen was dirty. All the cabinets had caked on grease, many doors did not close properly. Gas stove required lighting, but the lighter provided was empty. We bought a new one. Many of the pots and pans had baked on black stains that you couldn't remove, and they were dented and rusty. Every drawer was stuffed with OLD fabric napkins, torn towels, OLD tablecloths, old mismatched utensils that felt dirty and were just thrown into the drawer. We had 3 guests. We were charged an extra 280 euros in cash for our 3rd guest. There were 3 sets of old, torn bath towels for the 3 of us. There was one OLD shower in the main bath with no volume which spit water everywhere. It was impossible to adjust the water temperature. The shower leaked ALL over the entire bathroom floor which was a major safety hazard. We had to use whatever other towels we could find to sop up the water. Many of the light fixtures either did not have light bulbs or the bulbs were blown out. It was very dim in the apartment. The TV's were evidently hooked up to an antenna. None of them worked. The terrace on the roof had not been cleaned in ages. The chairs were just sitting everywhere, nothing organized. The table had a plastic tablecloth which had half blown off and had not been re-arranged properly. It was dirty with broken pots and dead plants. The main circuit breaker for the house was at the bottom of the stairs where you entered. The breaker kept tripping, and you would have to go down the steep stairs in the dark to re-set it. Another major safety hazard, There was peeling paint and mold and water stains on the ceilings. The stairs were very steep and narrow. Difficult even with just back packs and roll-on bags.
