Not terrible, but a difficult stay
5.0The decor is pretty neat and the place was very clean and tidy. There were two different coffee machines which was really nice, and the fans provided were actually invaluable in the end as it was quite warm, there is no air conditioning and it drowned out the sound of mosquitoes (I took 5 bites!) and the church bells constantly ringing as if the plague has come to the village. Parking was always easy and two keys are provided which is really nice. The property owner and cleaning staff were all reasonable and friendly despite our late departure.
− TL;DR: bring soap and ear plugs. Unfortunately I really cannot recommend staying here. First of all the check out time is at an inhuman 0930 in the morning and this cannot be changed as the cleaners will try to get in from that time. Don't make my mistake and believe the email that says you don't need to worry about checking out :D I was also unable to make payment without providing my personal email address. Secondly, almost nothing consumable is provided - there was not even any soap for washing your hands after using the toilet. A big problem if you turn up when everything is closed. Thirdly, while this is no fault of the property owners, the sadists at the church directly outside have created an infernal machine that rings a bell every fifteen minutes of the day, 24 hours a day. It seems the people of Koudekerke need to know when it is 3.15am, 3.30am, 3.45am and so forth. This is clearly audible from all rooms. And if you are lucky enough to visit on a Saturday night, they will ring the bell for 20 solid minutes at the beginning and end of the church service on Sunday from 9.30am. Where I do take exception is that the listing for this property should mention that sleep will be very difficult due to this. The room layout is not good for anything but a couple, as the bathroom is not separated from the bedroom by a door. While the decor is nice, all lights are too bright and have bare bulbs making a comfortable evening ambience very tricky. Also you can hear every cough and feel every footstep from your neighbours. There is no freezer or wardrobe and the stairs are precipitously steep.
