Large, Cheap Room.. But No

The room was cheap, large and clean, had a good location in the town centre, and Colm is a really nice man.

− But sadly that’s where it ends. I’m not used to leaving negative reviews and I’m sorry to have to say it, but the three things that come to mind when reviewing the stay are the smell, the cold and that once outside the room the house was not clean. We found the smell pervasive and overwhelming, a combination of damp and we’re not sure what. It made the stay quite unpleasant. It is winter, and so it is cold, but the small electric heater in the room is completely insufficient, and combined with the feeling of dampness, this made the room feel very cold. Suffice to say we went to bed with literally all our clothes on. To be fair we didn’t see all the house, only the entrance hall, stairs and shower room. But what we did see was cluttered and not clean, and smelled much worse than the bedroom. Colm did say the house was being worked on, but I’ve since noticed from the previous comments, that it’s been a work in progress since at least 2022. We didn’t venture into the kitchen, because we didn’t want to risk it, given the bedroom, shower room etc. I know some of these things can be subjective, and I know the room is low budget, so what can you expect. I also see that some other guests were perfectly happy, but it definitely wasn’t for us. But I do believe that Colm could improve the visitor experience immensely with a few small changes and improvements. This feedback might help in that regard. I’ll put some photos up with this review and people can make their own mind up. There are more photos, but I can only put 4 here.

Colm was lovely and the room was so spacious and quiet, it was great.

Extremely large room and very comfortable bed. Colm was a lovely host and made the check in and out process easy for a late notice booking

− Not a huge fan of carpet in the bathroom

Perfect, cheap as chips, the extra cleaning charges on Air BnB are more in some places.

The location could not have been better between the train station and the town centre.

− I knew in advance that there was no en suite, so it didn't bother me as it was set up like a guest house.

− Wrong address on Booking.com. Hallway cluttered with furniture & piano. Renovations in progress. Safety hazard
