Lovely place to stay!

We stayed at the Ocean Echo Inn while visiting a family member who lives in Santa Cruz. This was a perfect spot for central activities, near food and activities and with close proximity to some prime beaches!

Medical emergency turns into customer service nightmare

We booked a one night stay through HotelTonight for approximately $450 and arrived around 420 PM, after the hotels posted 4PM check in time. Unfortunately, we were told our room was not ready. The front desk suggested we spend some time at the beach while we waited and directed us toward the hotel’s private beach access. When we got there, we found it completely flooded and unusable, with no warning or signage. We walked around the block to the public beach access instead, where I slipped within moments of arriving and seriously fractured my foot which required an emergency room visit. We immediately returned to the hotel, informed the staff that we would not be able to stay because we were headed to the ER, and requested a refund since we never occupied or used the room. What was most disappointing was what happened afterward. Over the next two weeks, I called multiple times and was repeatedly told that “the owner would contact me.” No one ever did. Only after sending a formal email did I receive a response. The hotel acknowledged that my room was not ready on time but offered only a 50% credit that expires in 60 days instead of a refund for a room we never used. I can’t even go back to work in 60 days. To be clear, I am not asking the hotel to take responsibility for my injury, which occurred on a public beach access. My disappointment is with the customer service. We paid for accommodations that were unavailable when we arrived, never had the opportunity to use the room due to a medical emergency, and were offered a short term coupon instead of a refund. I hope management reconsiders how situations like this are handled in the future.

Disappointed in the beach area

− The beach was not able to use because of the water not being clean and able to walk to the beach was having to hike down the mountain was not worth the amount you pay

There is a two-night minimum that is required on weekends for Fridays and Saturdays from 9 June through 2 September.
