We had a great stay. Our room was very clean and comfortable, the restaurant was amazing, and the staff was incredibly helpful (they helped us find hiking trails and purchase gondola tickets). The location is also great - not in the busiest part of town so it is relatively quiet, but still close to everything. Could not have asked for anything more.

Great Service: Selling us gondola tickets

We stayed in the Family Room Hohturnen, which was perfect for our needs. Service was the best, especially in this regard: selling us tickets for local gondolas, cable cars, and cog railways. There is absolutely no reason to purchase tickets online in advance. Simply go to the front desk each morning, where the manager has a ticket machine, with which he's happy to generate tickets. If you don't use the tickets, he can provide a refund later the same day. This service removes the anxiety of trying to obtain tickets remotely in advance.

L' aspect général de l'hôtel tout en bois avec un très beau décor et des objets anciens dignes d'un musée. La qualité des menus des dîners avec des plats délicieux et originaux. La gentillesse de tout le personnel. La possibilité d'obtenir des billets de téléphériques et trains ce qui fait gagner du temps pour les excursions.

− Juste pour dire quelque chose : certaines chambres ont une douche dans la baignoire ce qui n'est pas très pratique pour des personnes âgées comme moi.

The room was spacious. The bed was very comfortable, the sheets were clean and fresh, and the bathroom was clean.

− The location was very misleading. Booking.com advertises the hotel as being 400 metres from the centre, but our experience was very different. It is approximately 1.2 km from Grindelwald Station, which is a long uphill walk with luggage, a stroller, or young children. This is something travellers should be aware of before booking. There is no air conditioning, and there are no fly screens on the windows. We had to keep the windows open because if we kept them closed, the room became too hot. During the night, I was bitten by multiple mosquitoes, making it difficult to sleep. Although the room itself was spacious and clean, the rest of our experience was extremely disappointing. The elevator had an unpleasant smell, and the breakfast was very basic with very little variety. The most disappointing part of our stay was the behaviour of the owners. Instead of making guests feel welcome, we constantly felt as though we were being watched. There was very little sense of privacy, and it felt like our every move was being monitored. At breakfast, my wife, daughter, and I each took three eggs (nine eggs in total). The owners approached us in front of other guests and told us we needed to leave eggs for everyone else, despite breakfast being included in the price we had paid. We found this embarrassing, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. When I later tried to discuss the matter with the owner, there was no apology or understanding only a defensive response. He stated that he only eats one egg himself and that this was why his wife approached us about not wasting food, even though eating three eggs each is completely normal for us. The cancellation policy was equally disappointing. We were advised that even cancelling shortly after making the booking would still result in the full amount being charged, showing very little flexibility or consideration for guests.
