The Bridge, John Street, Kilkenny, IE
Extremely disappointed.
4.0I booked a two-night stay several weeks in advance to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. At the time of booking, I specifically requested a river-view room and made the hotel fully aware of the special occasion. Given the advance notice and the number of river-view rooms available, I expected that request to be honoured or, at the very least, given proper consideration. Instead, we were allocated a room overlooking a gravel car park and what appeared to be a service entrance. Rather than enjoying a relaxing anniversary break, we spent our stay listening to coaches arriving and departing, deliveries being made, and general service activity taking place directly beneath our window. The situation was made even worse by the fact that the cleaners' storeroom was located immediately outside our room. Staff regularly congregated there with cleaning trolleys, resulting in constant noise from conversations, moving equipment, and rustling laundry. Each time we left our room, we were forced to manoeuvre around bags of bed linen, laundry, and cleaning trolleys left in the corridor. What is most frustrating is that this was not a last-minute booking. The hotel had weeks of notice, knew we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary, and yet chose to place us in what felt like one of the least desirable rooms in the property (127). The complete disregard for our request and the special occasion left us feeling undervalued as guests. This should have been a memorable and enjoyable anniversary celebration. Instead, it was a hugely disappointing experience that fell far short of the standards and consideration I would expect from any hotel claiming to provide quality guest accommodation.
Nice place in Kilkenny
9.0Very central , good service
− Breakfast could improve
Nice location, otherwise OK
8.0Close to everything we wanted to walk to and see. Nice large room and bathroom. Great food at the restaurant and pub across the street, Matt the Miller.
− No AC, only 1 window which didn't help much with cooling the room but the fan helped some. It was a hot week overall so probably not as bad as any other more typical week. Bed was a little too firm for our taste. Large and deep bath tub was difficult to get in and out of. Breakfast was OK. Staff at breakfast wouldn't provide me with ice or cold water for my water bottle.
