One of the best hotel experiences we have enjoyed during our global travels for sure. We stayed for 3 nights and truly did not want to leave. Ghent Marriott hotel is in the perfect location, situated along the main canal that runs throughout historic area of Ghent. So much to do and see, and everything is within walking distance. In fact, you walk out of the back side of the hotel, and you are at the main canal where everything happens. The hotel is extremely beautiful and well built, with much open space to enjoy yourself. Also, once inside your room, it is so quiet . . . meaning restful, and such a good night's sleep. The lounge area is very relaxing and at the restaurant each morning we enjoyed a great breakfast to begin our day. What truly separates Ghent Marriott is its people. Staying 3 nights, we got to know several associates that were ALWAYS friendly, personable, and helpful . . . and always with a smile. A big THANK YOU to everyone, although we got to know a few Marriott associates by name, and to them a personal thank you: Pascal - amazing at hosting us at breakfast as always calling us by our names and remembering our habits, with great service . . . also good at making us laugh; Katrien - thank you for the extremely thoughtful note in our room (we were in town to run the Gent Marathon) with a few thoughtful gestures (so much appreciated) - - - I know it is on behalf of everyone, although you were the driving force (and I saved your note to remind me of kindness and what made hotel truly special - its people); Jasmien - always a beautiful and welcoming smile with kind words every time we walk by reception area, thank you; Brecht - In Training, although you already excel at your position; and Montse - you were our first impression of Marriott Ghent - thanks for your kindness, and getting us off to a great start. Great hotel for a family with a baby!

We stayed at the Marriott for one night on our way to Amsterdam (from the UK) It was myself, my husband and our (almost) 7 month old baby. The Parking when we arrived was so easy and cheaper than we thought. We had a beautiful view of the canal from our room and our room was very spacious. Having a baby that is bottle fed, the temperature on the kettle was actually a really great thing to have and the rooms felt really well sound proofs when you have a baby who can cry! The best thing however was the room service! I had a steak and my husband had the cod. We also had a bottle of rose and it was all absolutely delicious! It came quickly too. It was a little on the cold side but I think we were quite a walk from the kitchen so we didn't mind. It was our favourite hotel of the trip and we stayed at the Sofitel in Amsterdam and the Cassellberg in Bruges. Check in and Check out were easy and they set up a cot with sheets in the room for us. Thank you Marriott for making our stay with a baby so easy and comfortable.

My stay at the Marriott Hotel Ghent met the highest professional standards. The reception team, particularly Jasmine and Katrine handled the check-in efficiently and with great professionalism, ensuring a smooth and well-organised arrival. You immediately feel well taken care of. Breakfast service was equally well managed. The staff, especially Louise and Pasquale, were attentive, courteous, and efficient, contributing to a productive and comfortable start to the day. Overall, an excellent hotel for business or leisure travel, combining professional service, a calm atmosphere, and consistent attention to detail. I would confidently choose this hotel again for future stays.

Exceptional Stay

The Ghent Marriott was the simply the best hotel of our one month European vacation celebrating a significant wedding anniversary. We had alerted the hotel ahead of time and we were thrilled on arrival to find the staff had decorated our room beautifully to acknowledge our anniversary as well as gifting us some chocolate and champagne. So unexpected and so appreciated. We also took advantage of the early booking offer in the lovely restaurant that included a complimentary glass of wine. We had an absolutely marvelous meal seated in a beautiful window seat overlooking the canal. The hotel is ideally situated for walking to the historical sights and steps away from the canal cruise boats. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We just loved our stay here and hope we will be back some day. Ghent is beautiful and the Ghent Marriott is simply the best. Traditional historical exterior but with modern, updated and comfortable rooms. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so memorable.

Unjustified charge despite timely cancellation – very disappointing experience

We had reserved two rooms via the official Marriott website for the Ghent Marriott Hotel (reservation no. 83932420) for the night of January 1st to January 2nd, 2026. The reservation was cancelled within the authorized cancellation period, in full compliance with the stated terms and conditions. Despite this, we were charged nearly €500. We only noticed this thanks to careful monitoring of our bank accounts — had we not been vigilant, this significant amount would have been wrongfully kept. I immediately contacted both the hotel manager and the manager on duty in writing, but received no response at all. The only person who replied was a front desk employee, who told us that we would be refunded shortly. As of now, the issue remains unresolved. I have been travelling extensively for over 25 years, both privately and professionally, booking around 100 hotel nights per year. This is the first time I have ever experienced such a situation — and it happened on the official website of the Marriott brand, which makes it even more difficult to accept. Beyond the financial issue, the lack of communication and absence of any apology from hotel management are deeply disappointing. Guests’ money should be treated with care and respect, and unfortunately this incident reflects the opposite. This experience does not meet the standards one would reasonably expect from a Marriott property.
