Great view, bad hotel

4.0

Classic, rustic hotel with a phenomenal view. Horribly managed. Nobody here cares about customer service (except one lovely waitress). Sat in the bar for an hour — bartender never came to ask us what we wanted to drink — even though there was nobody else there! We paid over $250 US per night! The rate they advertise - about $ 190/night - is only good if you call the hotel to reserve. If you book online - even through their website! - you $50+/night extra. The room was worth maybe $60/night. They know they got you because it’s the only hotel on the rim of the canyon and the only one within walking distance of the train station. And as I said - nobody here cares. Rooms haven’t been remodeled since it was built in the 70s. TV didn’t work. No hair dryer. No internet in the rooms, despite what they advertise. If you want to pay with a card, whether at the bar or in the restaurant or in the store, you have to go into the office; they only have one card terminal in the entire hotel and it’s not portable. And NOBODY has change so we couldnt pay in cash and couldnt even tip the housekeeper. Included breakfast offers big portions but mediocre quality and almost no options. “Orange juice” is powdered. There’s a little coffee bar but it doesn’t open til 1pm even though the menu says 7am. If you love dogs, bring dog treats. Street dogs are friendly and scrawny.
