When a Seven-Day Stay Fell Short of Hilton Standards
2.0As a longtime Hilton Honors member and current Gold Member, I've stayed at many Hilton properties over the years. I chose this hotel for our seven-day stay in Miami because I've consistently had good experiences with the Hilton brand. The staff I encountered were friendly and professional, but several parts of this stay fell below the standard I've come to expect. The suite had several noticeable issues. There were no sheer curtains in either the living room or bedroom. The shower head was mounted so high that my girlfriend, who is 5'2", couldn't reach it to adjust it. The carpeting looked worn and stained. There was also very little space between the bed and the closet, making the closet difficult to access. During our stay, the bathroom sink faucet became loose and started leaking. Housekeeping tried to repair it, but the leak became even worse. The Front Office Manager offered to move us to another room, which I appreciated. However, because we were in Miami for an important personal matter and had already unpacked, moving rooms would have been more disruptive than helpful, so we chose to make it work. The Front Office Manager then credited my Hilton Honors account with the equivalent of one night's stay. I didn't ask for compensation, and I appreciated the gesture. My concern isn't how the staff responded after the problems were found. It's why the room was considered ready for guests in the first place. Missing sheer curtains, worn carpeting, and a leaking faucet should have been identified before the room was placed into service. After reporting several issues during our stay, we eventually stopped because it didn't seem to make a difference. Noise was another challenge. The bedroom air-conditioning unit was loud, and there was a constant hum from HVAC equipment outside the windows. The windows did little to block the noise. It affected our sleep enough that we ended up using earplugs at night. Breakfast was adequate, but one practice stood out. Milk was served in a shared pitcher that every guest handled throughout breakfast. While this may be convenient for the hotel, it created an avoidable hygiene concern that took away from the overall guest experience. The elevators also had recurring issues. They didn't display whether they were going up or down, and on three to five occasions an elevator stopped at our floor without opening its doors. Instead, it continued to other floors before eventually returning. The outdoor patio also served as the hotel's smoking area, making it difficult to enjoy whenever guests were smoking. In addition, when we needed extra towels or other basic supplies, we were simply told to pick them up at the front desk instead of having them brought to the room. None of these issues alone would have defined our stay. Together, however, they reflected a level of quality below what I've come to expect from Hilton. To be clear, I'm not seeking compensation. I appreciate the one-night Hilton Honors credit that was voluntarily extended, and my purpose in writing this is simply to provide honest feedback that may help improve the guest experience. To the management team, thank you for taking the time to read this review. My hope isn't to receive another apology, but to see these concerns addressed at their source. The staff I encountered were courteous and did their best to help. My goal is not to criticize them, but to help improve the guest experience so future guests receive the level of quality that has kept me choosing Hilton over the years. I simply want the Hilton standards back.
