5.0Location
− We’ve stayed at several Hoxton hotels before and have always really liked the brand, which is why we chose it again in Vienna. Unfortunately, this time the experience was really disappointing and nowhere near the standards we’re used to. The rooms were smaller than at other Hoxton hotels, and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. The mattress was so soft that we kept sinking into the middle, so neither of us slept particularly well. But what really stood out was the staff. Everyone seemed quite unhappy, cold and generally uninterested in being helpful. The welcome was very basic, with no personal touch or effort to make guests feel comfortable. Even something as simple as recommending a few places to visit or showing some enthusiasm would have made a difference. There was just zero attention to detail. The rooftop was probably our biggest disappointment. We went up during the day to have a look, and the young lady at reception simply said, “Sorry, it’s closed.” Nothing else. She didn’t even ask if we were staying at the hotel or explain when it would open. She could have easily mentioned the pool, shown us around or suggested coming back later for a drink. Instead, she just seemed completely unbothered. We actually went back that evening for champagne, drinks and some food, and it was honestly terrible. We spent almost €90, and the food was really poor. The tuna tartare was so bad we couldn’t eat it, and the empanadas were chewy and tasted like something that had been reheated in a microwave. The service was also incredibly slow, and again, the staff seemed completely uninterested in finding a solution or making any effort. The attitude was very much “it is what it is.” It’s a shame because we genuinely like The Hoxton and have always had good experiences at other properties. But in Vienna, it really felt like the staff lacked training, motivation and any real interest in hospitality.
