Excellent private accommodation for Pilgrims and budget-conscious travelers

I am immensely grateful to Hostel PAQ for having me stay three times, and keeping my luggage while I went on a short (T1-23) pilgrimage by bicycle. The hostel is wonderful and welcoming, with tons of facilities, in a great location, about 7 minutes on foot from Tokushima Station, and about 7-10minutes from an area with many restaurants and the Awa Odori Kaikan. There was space to park my bicycle safely inside, lots of books and a "recycling corner" where you could leave and take items for the pilgrimage, and I feel this hostel is very much suitable for Shikoku Pilgrims. They will store your luggage for free, have a lot of information on the pilgrimage and you are likely to meet many fellow pilgrims there. My favourite place here was the little lounge, which is lovingly furnished, has a small kitchen, free hot drinks, a free breakfast (cheese toast, jam, soup), big bookshelves, TV, and is generally a very cosy and welcoming place to relax. They ask people to be quiet/use headphones which is not strictly enforced, but most guests I met were adhering to the house rules, and altogether contributed to this place being calm and friendly. Definitely not a party hostel. My room was clean, quiet but I feel could do with a little bit of upgrade - this is the only reason why I did not give it full marks. It had it's own WiFi though, which is great security-wise. Last not least, staff was present throughout the day, super friendly and approachable. Some spoke a little English, but really made an effort and used translators where necessary, so ultimately, communication was not a problem.

− Only my room could have a bit of improvement. I stayed in three different private rooms on the fourth floor, which all had a similar layout with a single bed, tiny desk, coat hooks and a tiny unit bath. The rooms were super clean and a good size for a single room The beds felt a little soft to me, but I could sleep really well - so, comfortable to sleep! Bedlinen was nice and clean. The industrial-looking carpet, tired wall paint and harsh lighting really didn't do the rest of the hostel justice, and also there were a lots of bits plugged in (?Wifi) which were flashing through the night. I think some nice washable flooring and a bit of fresh paint would do wonders to the structurally very nice rooms.

ロッカーや上履き、トイレなどが十分に整っていました。特に下フロアのシャワーが24hで使用可能だった点、キッチン周りの共有器具が充実してい点が素晴らしかったです。

− ドミトリールームの扉の鍵が少し緩かった点。
